Going to copy/paste some actual criteria because Megamind is so autistic, and I love it.

• Being “in their own world”
• Can spend hours in the library researching
• Clumsiness
• Early in life they often have a speech impediment (shool/ollo/metrocity)
• Eccentric personality
• Highly gifted in one or more areas
• Intense focus/hyperfocus
• Likes and dislikes can be very rigid
• Limited interests
• Loves learning and information
• May have difficulty staying in school/college despite a high level of intelligence
• Preoccupied with their own agenda (it’s destiny)
• Repetitive routines or rituals
• Single-mindedness
• Speech and language peculiarities / hyperlexia
• Naive
• Abused, bullied, or taken advantage of as a child
• Escapes regularly through fixations, obsessions, and over-interest in subjects (hero/villain game)
• Feelings of polar extremes (depressed/over-joyed; inconsiderate/over-sensitive)
• Questions place in the world
• Searches for right and wrong
• Sense of humor sometimes seems quirky, odd, or different from others
• Highly susceptible to outsiders’ viewpoints and opinions (“Then it hit me: if I was the bad boy, then I was going to be the baddest boy of them all!”)
• Rejects social norms and/or questions social norms

There’s so much more I could add – could be great if fellow autistics and aspies familiar with this awesome film could pitch in!

And let’s not forget – Aspergers and autism are often referred to as ‘wrong planet syndrome’. Megamind being so obviously alien just turns that metaphor more concrete.

Being an aspie, I’ve frequently had to ‘pass’ as neurotypical just to be treated ‘normal’. Much like Megamind’s disguise watch – I slip on a new face/voice and suddenly no one looks at me like a ‘freak’. But it’s not natural. I’m still an alien underneath it all.

{{ aspie here and yes to all of that. I’m sure that’s why I latched on so hard to Megamind. Because I hadn’t known what I was when I first watched it but it was so much just “yes that is me” in everything. Because he clearly has depression and anxiety too but those go hand in hand with autism/aspie. I know I struggle so much with language. My huge vocabulary is crippled by bad grammar and spelling and mixing up words. I live by thesauruses and dictionaries so that I can write clearly. Even then I mix up words that have nothing to do with each other on a regular basis. 

All this to say that with so many symptoms, yes I fully support Megs being Autistic. To crave normalcy but to feel caged by it and wanting to just break free and be allowed to be yourself. }}
