The Evil Lair

@glittergcld from here:

She had heard the name around, had heard Syx mention her in passing. She had seen some of the footage from past battles that Syx had between him and his old lover, knew that there was a woman that had been taken a lot.. and now that she thought about it? It had to have been this one. She tilting her head just a touch more with a noise that was more of a animal-like grunt than anything.

“I remember seeing you on footage,” was all she offered on that. She didn’t necessarily trust the woman, but Syx obviously did. If anything, the brain bots made that little fact glaringly obvious. She took in a deep breath, forcing herself to relax a bit more, though her mind still didn’t like that this woman so easily invaded her territory.

“Would you like something to drink?” she prompted, smiling gently. Her voice was much gentler now, extending her hand to the other woman in invitation. She didn’t seem bothered in the slightest that she wasn’t clothed for company.. but then again, skimpy clothing was pretty much how she dressed at all times.

“I- really?” Roxanne shook her head, short hair fluttering around her, “Of course, I’d love to.”

There was no way in hell that she’d pass up the opportunity to get the inside scoop on Megamind’s Evil Lair and surprising unknown details of his life. A girlfriend, Roxanne still couldn’t believe it. Her brain buzzing with questions, she hardly noticed the lack of clothing on the gorgeous dark-skinned woman before her. Nearly not noticed. That… might prove a distraction for this interview that was a bit more than Roxanne was used to. But she’d done it before and could again. She would never let the attractiveness of an interviewee get between herself and a scoop.

“So how long have you and Megamind been dating?” Roxanne’s head swiveled around to take in everything about the Lair, “Are you the reason for his decreased criminal activity of late?”

Pausing to look around and orientate herself, Roxanne watched the Brain Bots fly around the room. They’d been drawn to the door thinking Daddy was home, but seeing [Special Case: “Roxanne” = passive mode, additional program, run: Do Not Play] they ignored her and went about their business. Roxanne didn’t notice their behavior as unusual as the bots had always behaved that way around her.

In fact, the only thing to shock the reporter as she stated into the lair was the unfamiliar glowing eyes and the woman’s voice. She froze, wide eyed at the stranger, feeling strangely offended. In embarrassment she realized it was the same feeling she’d had upon realizing as a child that her teacher had a life outside of school. She’d known that she didn’t know everything about the blue super villain’s life… but it was different to actually see something so unexpected staring her in the face.

Straightening her back to try and cover for her surprise, Roxanne countered, “Me? Who are you?” taking in the clothing she added hesitantly, “Do you actually live here?” she realized she didn’t really know if this was a home or a workshop or what it was to Megamind. She’d assumed he would just built his robots in a place like this. At the same time… it was hard to picture Megamind living in a normal house.

Anna was absolutely shocked by how it was the brain bots were reacting, looking at them as they simply went about their day as normal..  her eyes shifted to narrow over at the woman, looking the well dressed brunette up and down before her eyes settled back on her eyes. Obviously the bots were programmed in a manner that made her realize that Syx trusted this woman.. but why? Why didn’t he tell her about this woman?

Anna was not a jealous woman. Not in the slightest. They had a healthy relationship, one built on pure trust.. seeing the woman here, made Anna wonder if there was something Syx had forgotten to tell her.. and considering she had never seen this woman until now? She was likely a blast from the past, perhaps?

“Yes, I live here with my mate… now.. who are you?” she prompted, not about to give the woman her name when she had yet to give Anna hers. In her mind, Roxanne was trespassing on her territory.. and if the bots wouldn’t do anything? She would, if necessary

“Mate?” Roxanne blinked in shock, recalling that Harrison had used that word too, “You’re Megamind’s… girlfriend?”

He had a lover? Roxanne was flabbergasted. Not that it mattered no, no, of course not. It was just a surprise and well… she’d rather thought he had a thing for Wayne…

“Roxanne Ritchi,” it had been a long time since someone hadn’t recognized her, “From Channel 8,” she prompted. Finally, with a sigh, she added, “The one that always gets tied to things during Megamind’s plots?”

Smiling with glee as her fingers found and depressed a switch, Roxanne gave a slight push and the door swung open. She closed her eyes as she passed through the holowgram, it was far too visually strange to walk through a wall. Without her knowing, Megamind’s security did a sweep over her and registered her as ‘welcome guest’.

To protect Miss Ritchi from harm from his machines, Syx had simply plugged Roxanne’s bio signature into all his systems to treat her with protection. To save time, he’d simply copied that override into each new system. Never had it occurred to him that his favorite kidnappie would have cause to wander freely around his lair or that she’d ever even find it without being brought there.

Anna heard the soft sounds that were coming from the door, though even with that? She was entirely unconcerned with anything that was happening. She had full faith in the lairs defense systems. Between the bots and all the weapons.. well. Anna herself was a force of nature. She would be just fine, that confidence shown in how she walked steadily even when she heard the sound of the door opening.

She had just come around the corner to see Roxanne standing there… and the bots moving away. Her eyes widened with evident shock, her gaze flicking from the bot to the woman with short brown hair. In the lair where the lighting was a bit more dim than natural lighting, the glow of her eyes was more evident, taking another slow step forward, looking at the woman curiously.

“Who are you?” She asked, her head tilted in a more animal like manner than human.

Anna had been there for Syx every step of the way through the entire adventure of him trying to get over the heartbreak of Metro Man. It had been an interesting journey of healing, one Anna refused to let him do alone. She gently coaxed him to tell her what it was that happened, and once he got it out? She did anything she could to make it clear to him that she loved him with all her heart.

She was glad for Minion’s help as well, helping the fish as well to make sure that he wasn’t overwhelmed with everything. All through it, Anna found that it helped her find herself, as well. She felt as if she had settled more firmly into her own skin with all the things that happened.. and while she was far from an angry woman. What Metro Man had done to her mate wasn’t something she would easily forget. She kept that part of it to herself.

She was walking around the lair in her typical skimpy clothing, the fabric hanging off breasts in a manner that made it clear she wasn’t wearing a bra. Why should she when she was at home?

She froze when the sound of an alert sounded, turning and trotting her way to the computer screens on light feet, seeing a woman standing before the secret entrance. She frowned deeply, though she wasn’t worried. Not truly. It was a secret entrance for a reason, afterall.

Roxanne walked the perimeter of the building. She had to correct herself as she looked it over. It didn’t just say go away in English, it said it in Spanish as well. She didn’t know any of the other languages, but she was beginning to suspect the blue villain had written the same phrases in every language he knew on the building. It was rather an obvious giveaway. As much as the complete lack of police reports or electricity usage. Signs of very obvious record tampering, the lack of any info standing out like a neon sign.

Not seeing a clear entrance, Roxanne suddenly froze. Complete lack! Like the records and the invisible car. He always tries to just make things disappear. She looked over the wall again, with greater scrutiny. There wasn’t a single entrance to the building save a rusted out fire exit. Every building had entrances and a large warehouse like this should have several including large doors to get trucks in and out of.

As she ran her fingers along the brickwork, she gave herself a quite pat on the back as the texture changed. The wall gave a slight glimmering ripple around her fingers, one she’d gotten used to seeing with the invisible car. That didn’t tell her how to get in, but he definitely had the right place! Closing her eyes to block out the confusing visual input, she felt out for any sort of catch or mechanism to open the hidden door.

It had taken a lot of hunting, but Roxanne thought for sure she was in the right area. It had been months since Megamind had kidnapped her. Weeks since she’d last seen the blue man and had a disgruntled conversation with him on her balcony. She hated to admit it… but she was worried about him.

He’d been a huge part of her life for nearly a decade now. It was hardly a friendship… but he’d never forgotten an anniversary or birthday (though that might have been Minion, she wasn’t sure). They’d had a system, a working relationship. She’d drunken cocoa with him of failed schemes. Seen the cracks in his mask… the man beneath the villain. Just enough to trust him. To know there was more to Megamind than the smug idiot he pretended to be.

Roxanne tried to convince herself that it was just to find out what plots Megamind had for the city. If he was taking this long to kidnap her again, then it must be something big. He’d never just… give up. That wasn’t the Megamind she knew. No matter how many times she’d told him to ‘just give it up’ and that he’d ‘never win’… she’d never seen it actually affect him. But now…

Parking her yellow scooter in an alley, Roxanne pulled up the map on her phone. This was the next building on her list. Pulling through public records she’d cross referenced all the vacant lots in the warehouse district against their dimensions, police reports, and electricity usage. It had taken a lot of coffee and time, but he’d narrowed it down to ten buildings. This was the fourth candidate on the list.

Looking up at it, the building hardly seemed different from those around it. Covered in graffiti and with piles of junk outside. She patted her pocket, her small handgun inside. She’d gotten the concealed carry permit shortly after Megamind had started kidnapping her, though she’d only ever pulled it on the man once. But that was back before she’d realized he’d never do anything worse than inconvenience her, as long as you didn’t count mild rope burn and smelly bags.

The wall she approached, however, finally had something promising. Blue spray paint told everyone to ‘go away’ and ‘no one lives here!’ but the street code also said the building was claimed and lived in. She was once again thankful to have learned the homeless codes during the different interest pieces she’d done over the years. What made it all the more likely was that all the gang symbols for the area had been crossed out. It looked like she might have a winner! Now to find a way in…
