Nath grunted, that was good he supposed. He judged himself enough for both of them. Heading back towards the museum out of habit, he wondered, “Ok, ok, ok, hold on a second. Who’s dad?” he frowned, “And what did you mean about around the prison?”

That didn’t sound anything like his father. Lord Robert Scott would never have let nim hang out around the prison.

“OH. Right. Geez I must really be the weird one out. When I landed on earth… My pod ended up in the prison yard.” It was much easier to talk about than when he’d first gotten here. There were weirdos everywhere. Felt good to not be only one of two of the people he knew.

“I was raised in the prison for a while, until Dad could get it all approved to adopt me then took me home and then, well. Yeah. Hey, i’m Wayne Woodridge, nice to meetcha.” Wayne grins.

“You’re the Warden’s son?” Nath asked, dumbfounded, “Well I can see how you’d turn to police work then,” rubbing the back of his neck, Nath offered, “James Woodridge always seemed like a good man, I never fully understood what Mother had against him,” he shrugged, trying not too think too much about Sally Scott, “Guess you didn’t have a Megamind than?” his brow furrowed, trying to imagine what might have become of this little buddy.

“A cop?” Nath blinked. Working with the law. He couldn’t imagine that was easy with how corrupt and lazy he’d known the police force to be, “How did you end up going that route?”

“Ah… no… not anymore at least,” he cringed, rubbing the back of his neck.

“Aaeehh I kind of decided it when I was really young. Dad always taught me right from wrong. Especially growing up in and around a prison.” Wayne says softly, watching Nath cringe and giving a supportive smile.

“Don’t worry, man. I’m not gunna judge you. Everyone has their limits, hell I know I do.” Wayne murmurs as he tips his head in a direction as a suggestion for them to keep walking around or not. Whatever Nath wanted to do.

“Ah… uh…” Nath looked away, not really sure how to answer that. His sense of time was horribly skewed, “A few months ago?”

“So you’re still… doing the… hero thing?” he guessed, “Are the others too? That you know?” he knew his was tapering off, but he did still go out. The guilt occasionally returned, eating away at the pit of his stomach. He should be out there too… doing something… but… it would just repeat again. And again. He’d just be trapped in that nightmare all over again.

A loud snort escaped him before he could even think to begin to stop it.

Me? A Hero? Hah! Yeah no.” Wayne laughs at the very idea, slapping a hand down on Nath’s shoulder to support himself as he has a good chuckle.

“ No, I work at a bar. I don’t know about the others. Well except for my boyfriend’s brother’s husband. He’s doing the hero thing. I was a cop before I came here but that’s about as hero as i’m going to get. Honestly, I don’t even like the title.” Wayne shrugs and looks around him.

“ And you? No offense but you don’t look like fighting crime and saving the day.” He points out and raises an eyebrow.

“A cop?” Nath blinked. Working with the law. He couldn’t imagine that was easy with how corrupt and lazy he’d known the police force to be, “How did you end up going that route?”

Raising both eyebrows, Nath snorted, “No, I’m pretty sure that just makes you the whippersnapper, freckles.”

His lip twitching as he tried to restrain a full grin, he reached out and poked Wayne’s nose.

Gasping dramatically as Nath said that, when his nose was poked he tossed his head back with a hand to his chest.

“T’oh! Ouch! My pride! How could you?”

Bringing his head back down, Wayne snickers and rolls his shoulders in a shrug.

“Well no one can ever stop me from thinking i’m the coolest. So, when did you arrive in the big ol’ metro-hub anyhow?” He asks, talking about the multiverse thing.

“Ah… uh…” Nath looked away, not really sure how to answer that. His sense of time was horribly skewed, “A few months ago?”

“Ok, ok, simmer down there fella,” Nath couldn’t help the soft smirk that crept in at that wink the other gave him. He was certainly different than the other he’d met. This one was younger still if his guess was right, “What makes you the coolest then?”

“Duh. My radical personality, right?” Wayne keeps grinning before laughing and shaking his head.

“ That and i’m fairly younger than all the other version of me i’ve met. That automatically makes me cooler.” Wayne says matter-of-factly and leans his hips gently against the pole by the display they were at.

Raising both eyebrows, Nath snorted, “No, I’m pretty sure that just makes you the whippersnapper, freckles.”

It wasn’t until Wayne pulled his hand back that Nath realized he’d missed the gesture. Cursing himself for beeing too in his head, he stuffed his hands deeper in his pockets. He was not prepared for social contact right now.

Still… when was he ever lately. Forcing one of his old smiles on his face, he tried for something more charming.

“Me? Of course, my fine sir. Why wouldn’t I be fine?” for a million reasons he had no wish to go into, “Though you’re only the second Wayne I’ve met.”

“Mmm, right.” Wayne hums as Nath brushes off his question. He knew the guy was avoiding it and that was fine.

“Only the second? Well then let me be the first to tell you that i’m the coolest.” Wayne says with a grin and a wink.

“I’ve been going by Nathaniel,” Nath shrugged a shoulder, “Considering I’m living with myself-” he stopped mouth open and mentally cringed, “-ah, just for lack of confusions sake.”

He was horrible at this. Dear lord. Hadn’t talking to crowds once been easy? Or at least, if not easy at least functionally so. Painfully out of practice, that’s what he was. Being alone was easier… but it’d made everything else harder. He’d forgotten how to fake being human. Wayne… his Wayne… had been helping with that… but it was hardly the same as being in public.

“That’s a cool name.” Wayne says with a genuine smile, pulling his hand back as it wasn’t taken and shook and put it in his pocket with no second thought to it.

“Lack of confusi- OH so you mean you’re living with another version of you? Damn, we seem to be popping up all over the place, don’t we?” He chuckles and tilts his head at the expression on Nathaniel’s face.

“Hey man, you alright?” To see pretty much himself in the wars was slightly alarming. Wayne was worried.

On his way to his daily visit to the Metro Man/Megamind Museum, Nath spotted an equally large man. Stuffing his hands in his trench coat, he suddenly regretted that he was wearing sweats. More self-conscious around another version of himself than the humans that were more easily ignored. With a somewhat sheepish grin, he said, “Hey.”

Wayne blinked and raised his head from the display he’d been looking at only to be greeted with a copy of himself. Just, much older and with longer hair and wow.

He’d let himself go.

Squaring that thought away because bad Wayne, you don’t know what others have been through stop being so judgemental, he gives the guy a smile and extends a friendly hand.

“Hey. Name’s Wayne. The same?” He asks of his older double.

“I’ve been going by Nathaniel,” Nath shrugged a shoulder, “Considering I’m living with myself-” he stopped mouth open and mentally cringed, “-ah, just for lack of confusions sake.”
