Her wording made Syx choke, “Win over Metro Man…” he assumed she meant beat him in battle, but considering he was now secretly dating the hero, his face broke into a bright rosy blush as he shifted in his spinning custom chair.

He struggled to try and reclaim his Megamind persona, “It’s my destiny to oppose the muscle-bound he-ro,” he waved dismissively, “Trial and error is all part of the scientific process Warden, and when the titan falls the world will shake,” he proclaimed, horribly mixing metaphors.

Syx scowled, “Wasn’t like I was even fighting him this time,” and he was going to miss their date.

                     Fingers – meet nose.

The digits rose up to rub the area between her temple’s – more of a statement at how much of a headache his words were causing ( or it would have been an indication, had he not swiveled in his chair as he did ).

But then his next set of words had her frozen – icy blue which rose up to stare at the blue toned one she called a son. “..You two weren’t fighting? What did you do that had you landing in here again?”

She was honestly curious and though she had her connections with new sources so she could keep an eye on the boy, this event had completely gone over her.

Syx spun idly in his chair, “I wasn’t doing anything!” Syx crossed his arms indignantly, “Nothing really bad anyway. Just some idiots that needed to not be harassing…”

He trailed off, his temper was up too much and he almost admitted details he shouldn’t. The Warden didn’t need to know about how he protected the businesses in his territory from rival gangs. If she knew suck things and was complacent in his activities that could reduce her credibility in her job. If Syx cost his parent her job, what she’d spent her whole life dedicated to… he’d hate himself forever. Didn’t matter whether or not he fully agreed with the system. He knew her work was important to her.

“There are just too many stupid heroes around now that have no respect for how things are done,” he said haughtily. He hated the door that separated them. He would much prefer to be able to smell and sense her emotions rather than have to guess based on facial clues. Those could lie to him.

The tone and body language were spot on for Warden, if it wasn’t for the gender everything would be right. His cell was definitely his, even with that stupid mural his last therapist had painted on it to supposedly cheer up the moody and troubled teen he’d been at the time.

Megamind scowled, Warden had a way of always making him feel like a naughty child again. He was just glad Warden was at least speaking to him. It was worse when their fights got so bad that Warden wouldn’t even look in on him. He hated the cell that separated them, that was the only way he could see Warden without risking their relationship becoming public. They’d never send him to a prison run by his own family.

Only… was this Warden… his Warden? It couldn’t be. A Warden, though after all, he wasn’t the only Megamind around anymore. Harrison had confused him for a different Megamind when he’d met the man. In the end, it didn’t really matter he supposed. The conversation was still horribly familiar as was the person before him.

“Warden Woodridge?”

Syx huffed out a breath and fidgeted in his chair, his act slipping as he rolled his eyes, “I might always come back but you’ll never keep me here long.”

Oh, if only I could if only to shelter you from the outside world, she mused while keeping a hard glare and their usual appearances up. A few officers that had grown up with the little one from the day he had crash landed were retired or close to, and those that were still around had not been as involved with his development as the others.

If it were up to her, the entire world would have known of their relationship – but there had been many complications that kept them apart now. Her own stubborn nature? Having her own charge reject her as the parental figure despite talking to him in the past?

…He chose this life. All I can do now is keep protecting him – and keep waiting for him to change his mind and return to the sweet little boy he used to be.

“..You still never learn, do you?” she countered, back still stiff to appear as authoritative as possible. “You can go back out there all you like, try some new scheme to win over Metro Man, but in the end you will come back here.” I always make sure of it. “Why don’t you just stop trying?”

“I’m right here,” she clipped without thinking, wondering if he had somehow hit his head and suffered amnesia. A new level of concern hit her then but she pressed on with her work while simultaneously getting the necessary information out of him. “You couldn’t have forgotten my face already – not with how many times you’ve been brought back here.”

And not because you wished to visit your family, she thought bitterly, wishing the silly child would at least give her a phone call once in a while so she wouldn’t wonder if he was all right or not.

Here Again

She sighed for the tenth time that day alone – hands clasped behind her back as she made her round around the prison grounds. It was standard during certain times in the day, however, the noise level was slightly above average today, echoing off the walls and requiring a few guards to lower it down.

That was not the cause of her sighing, however. Months had gone without word of her child and she was torn between diving into her car and driving out to see them or simply staying put and waiting for them to come to her.

“Warden! You might wanna come see this!” Officer Velazquez was suddenly in front of her – catching her while she mused a little bit.

Her feet were carrying her forward before he finished the last syllable, feet clicking along the linoleum floor with rapid taps of succession. Whatever had the officer in such a frenzy deserved her attention.

Until she saw where she was being led to – heart hammering within her ribcage as she took sight of the special dome-like cell structure. The one meant to house them.

Her steps slowed first, a much gentler tap until she stood in front of the circular window that usually housed them – her hand raising to rest along the cool glass. Cheeks rosy, her blue eyes peered inside the structure to get of glimpse of them, widening when she caught sight of whom was inside.

              …Blue…? Had they returned?

               “Ma’am?”

The voice broke her away, made her remember where she was and the duty she had to do. Her only sense of comfort was that Blue was not one to intentionally hurt anyone – but they could still be hurt. And she feared the day they would come to her in a gurney bag.

She cleared her throat, stood straight once more and gave a nod toward the officer. He could stand guard all he wanted. Then she turned her attention back to Megamind.

“…Back again I see,” she said in her most warden-like voice, eyes steel despite the turmoil within. “What landed you in here this time?”

Megamind curled up in his chair, resting his head on his knees. He sighed wondering if Warden would come and see him today. All they ever seemed to do was argue. He longed for the days when his daddy would hold him and make everything right… but they couldn’t have that anymore… it wasn’t part of the life he chose and Warden would never understand.

He heard the viewport open, perking up at the sound though he tried not to let it show. Taking a deep breath he put on a dismissive face and tried to pretend like nothing whatsoever was wrong. Everything according to plan.

That only lasted until Warden spoke. The words were right, but the voice wasn’t. He blinked. The fuck? He tipped his head and blinking looked bewildered at the woman before him. She could have been Warden’s sister but she certainly wasn’t Daddy.

He opened his mouth and nothing came out, finally shaking his head he managed, “Where’s Warden?”

Here Again

Megamind was having a very bad day. He’d just been trying to reestablish his territory, wasn’t even doing anything terribly villainous. He and Metro Man had long ago established a ‘look the other way’ policy when it came to Megamind cleaning up the criminal world. His methods were far from legal but he got things done the cops and Metro Man never could.

The new heros in this larger version of Metrocity didn’t seem to share this mentality. As such Megamind now found himself dropped off in front of the Metro City Prison for the Criminally Gifted and it wasn’t a scheduled visit. Anna and Minion wouldn’t know he was here… and GOD DAMNIT ALL! He’d had a secret date with Wayne tomorrow. Just fuck everything. He ground his teeth, barely paying attention to his surroundings as he was cuffed and lead under guard to the criminal processing area to be stripped before he was put in his cell again. God this was going to be torture.
