“I’ve never actually been bobbing for…” Bell tapped her chin thoughtfully and almost corrected to apples, raising a questioning eyebrow, she echoed, “…heads… before. A good scare seems right up my alley.”

Clapping her hands together to let out the bubbling excitement growing in her, she bit her lip and looked over the strange woman before her and made the decision, “Show the new girl around?”

Scarborough let out a high-pitched giggle. “You mean to tell me you’ve never bobbed for apples? Bobbing for heads is the same, only with shrunken heads! Don’t worry, they’re not rotting or anything.” She giggled again, her skeleton grin growing wider. “I’d love to show you around! We just have to make sure we’re back at the well before midnight for the celebration’s big finale!”

Bluebell shook her head, “I never went to those sort of parties,” she said dismissively.

It still hurt… how many things she’d been excluded from by the other children growing up. Older now, she tried to convince herself that she never wanted them in the first place. Some days that worked.

Hands behind her back she couldn’t help the peeked interest, wanting to know what all she missed out on, “So what do you do when you catch them? And what happens at midnight? Do we all turn into pumpkins?”

Bluebell’s eyebrows crept up her forehead, “Well I certainly have to agree to that part. A grand presentation and some good screams,” even if Mr. Ritchi never screamed for her. Well, except for special occasions. Leaning out to look at the others beyond Scarborough, she wondered, “So what all is going on in your Halloween party then?”

“Why, any Halloween fun you can think of!” Scarborough grinned. “The entire town’s the party! Bobbing for heads in the well, trick-or-treating all around town, scaring each other silly, and oh so much more wherever you look!”

Looking around Bell wondered, “You guys really go all out for Halloween, huh?” her arms crossed she tapped a booted foot, “And I do my best to make sure the dissidents of the city are properly in the spirit,” she replied smugly, “Otherwise things would just be boring!” which in her mind, was the bigger crime.

Scarborough let out a high-pitched cackle that sounded very much like her father’s giggling laugh. “Of course we go all out for Halloween! This is Halloween, after all! It’s our night! And who wants a boring Halloween? Life’s no fun without a good scream.”

Bluebell arched her eyebrows at the girl, that smile really made her feel like this had to be a dream, “Halloween town huh?” rocking back on her heels with her hands on her hips, she decided it was best just to roll with it for now, “Megamind, Incredibly Criminal Genius Handsome Mistress of all Villainy of Metrocity.”

She rhymed the city name with atrocity, as in her mind, that’s what it was. Her chin held high, she grinned widely, showing her real teeth under the painted on ones, “But you can just call me, Megamind.”

Scarborough cackled again, grinning gleefully back at the other. “That’s quite a title you’ve got for yourself. And I’ve never heard of a place called Metrocity before. Sounds like a terrifying place.” Of course, to her, terrifying was a good thing. After all, this was Halloween. Terrifying was what they aimed for.

Looking around in wonder, Bluebell was glad she never went anywhere without her de-gun on her. Just in case. Still… nothing her looked terrifying, more just… unsettling. Like watching that girl’s head spin around. That was… yeah that was fucked up.

Placing a hand on her hip, Bell looked up at the taller girl, “Digging the gothic princess look. Just don’t tell me you’re the witch of Halloweens past. Because I am not interested in changing my evil ways.”

She was still somewhat worried one of the candies she’d eaten earlier was laced with something. Maybe Psycho Delic had gassed her as a holiday prank?

Scarborough arched an eyebrow, then threw back her head and cackled, grinning her skeleton grin. It fit just as well on her own rag doll face as it did on her father’s skull. “Oh, Branwenn, you were right!” she exclaimed, talking to the raven on her shoulder. “This one really is new to Halloween Town!” She flicked a lock of auburn and jet yarn-like hair over her unoccupied shoulder and turned her attention back to the costumed being. “If I were a witch, I’d be flying about with them. I’m Scarborough Skellington, Princess of the Pumpkin Patch,” she said with another joyous cackle.

Halloween was in full swing, and everyone in the town gathered and romped and sang and shrieked and screamed…this had to be their best year yet. And it wasn’t even close to over. Scarborough cackled ecstatically along with the witches who flew across the moon, dancing through the coloured smoke and fog her mother’s potions had created. Her gown–an outfit she saved for Halloween every year–flowed dangerously around her, the skirt woven through with dead, black roses and thorns, but the tall, slim rag doll never tripped or tangled in the hems. She had all the dark grace of a ballerina dancing the Black Swan’s solo.

In all the craziness, it wasn’t until Branwenn flew down and alighted on her shoulder that Scarborough noticed the one skeleton who seemed out of place. The one skeleton who didn’t look quite like the others. For one thing, this one had an awed, confused look on their face, and their bones were far too white to be real. Not to mention she couldn’t see the street and trees through the gaps in the skeleton’s bones. They looked like they were wearing one of the humans’ costumes. Scarborough slowly tilted her head until it turned completely upside down on her neck, her curiosity piqued. She let her head return to its natural position and glided toward the stranger.

Looking around in wonder, Bluebell was glad she never went anywhere without her de-gun on her. Just in case. Still… nothing her looked terrifying, more just… unsettling. Like watching that girl’s head spin around. That was… yeah that was fucked up.

Halloween was always one of her favorite times of year. Megamind spun in a happy circle through the streets. Last year she and Wynette Scott had thrown together an epic battle, her piloting an enormous pumpkin themed robot dubbed the PUM-KING and Metro Woman had sported a spooky version of her hero costume, with ghoulish makeup and candy themed buttons. The whole thing had exploded into candy corn in the end, burying several cars to the delight and horror of those watching.

This year, however, Bluebell decided not to end the night behind bars. The big shit was fun and all, but sometimes the best pranks were small. So dressed in a skeleton leotard and her entire face and entire large bald covered in black and white skull paint, she added a pair of platform boots, long skeleton arm gloves. What blue skin did show, she covered in black paint, giddy with how her costume turned out.

Parking her bike by the foot trail into the woods, Bell started the long trek to the secluded Scott Manor. She could drive, but it was more fun to sneak up on them from behind. She’d taken this route to visit her secret lover/nemesis plenty of times before, but this night something was different. A clearing opened up filled with huge trees with doors on them. Holiday themed doors.

Brows furrowed in confusion, Bell approached the pumpkin, curiosity driving her forward. Laughter and music filling her senses, she looked about in wonder at the strange world that unfolded around her, “What trickery is this….? Am I high?”
