Starlight Picnic

With everything he needed gathered in a small pack, Syx turned towards the path and took Anna’s hand. His stomach was filled with butterflies, nervous as he was about what was to come. He knew it would be well received. Should be. But… he was still anxious. Swallowing he started talking, just to keep his head straight as he led her up a very familiar path through the woods.

“I used to come here a lot when I was younger. To get away from the noise and the lights of Metrocity,” he looked up, catching bits of sky between the thick pine trees, “I could only come when the weather was nice, before the snow,” it was crisp outside, fall setting in and the few maples had the leaves in a bright array of colors, “We had so little back then. But this… it was special. Secret. I’m sure other people know it’s here, but to me, it felt like mine and Minion’s private hideaway,” he turned and led her off the small dirt trail to one that was no more than a deer trail.

Anna smiled just a touch, seeing the anxiety in him, but had absolutely no idea just what it was that he was planning to do. As he spoke, she simply assumed it was because he was showing her an important place to him. She nodded quietly to assure him that she was still listening to what he said as they walked along beside him, reaching to take his hand in hers. As always, her skin was a bit warmer to the touch than normal humans.

“I’m excited to see it,” She spoke genuinely, squeezing his hand to accentuate her words. “Was it just because you found it that it was special? Or?” She prompted, wanting to keep the conversation going further.

He squeezed her hand, “Yeah, it was special, but it was more… well…,” a mischevious smile spread on Syx’s face as he saw they’d reached the top. He singsonged, “You’ll see.”

He pushed through the last of the low hanging branches. Before them, the sand dunes dipped down low, the lake beyond that. They were high in the air here, the lights of the city a distant dream. The huge lake seemed to disappear into the horizon, the dark water glittering as the sun sank low.

Just in time.

The sky was alight with warm golds and reds as the sun seemed to sink into the dark water. His voice soft, Syx continued, “When I was here… I could forget about humans and the pain they caused. Here, by this lake, under these stars… Under a red sky… waiting until the stars fill the entire sky…”

The sky was nearly cloudless, as the sun’s light sank away, the glittered. So much brighter, so many more than could ever be seen in the city.

“It was as close as I could ever get to…” his throat closed up as his eyes were drawn up. Not that he could see that star from here. It could be seen from Earth, but not from anywhere in Michigan.

He shook his head to clear his thoughts and squeezed his beloved’s hands again, “Anna? My Tiger? I… I wanted to…” his stomach tightened with nerves, “…ask you something?”

“Okay no wait!” Bluebell waved her hands wildly in the air, bouncing on her toes, “What if, just picture this, a swarm of robotic bees in a sandstorm! In fucking MICHIGAN! Yeah?” she grinned widely as she bounced down on the couch, tossing a beer overhanded at the djinn, “Don’t tell me that wouldn’t be fucking sweet. The looks on their faces alone I tell you!”

Cackling with wild energy she could hardly sit still, spilling beer as she gestured with both hands. The young blue villainess was clad in a studded leather pants and a cute skull tank top, her makeup as over the to dramatic as it always was with severe winged eyeshadow and dark purple lips

Sticking her tongue out at him for trying to ruin her fun, Bell grabbed another beer, “I enjoy them. They make things interesting. God forbid this city ever get boring.”

The last question had the silliness drop off of her face. Straightening she tapped her chin, “The answer is actually reeeeeealy boring. They are all just human after all. Assuming it’s premeditated with plenty of prep time,” she held up a finger for the caveat, “a high-powered sniper shot to the head. Bang. Dead just like anyone else and no time for them to use their powers. Same way I’d kill you if I had to,” she shrugged, it wasn’t like she didn’t have backup plans for everyone, “Now it gets interesting if I didn’t have prep time!”

Passing the room, she mused, “Neither is immune to my de-gun but the smoke is impossible to shoot through and up close Jim-bo is good with a knife. Honestly, the best bet is to go for the girl first. He doesn’t think straight when he’s emotional. Problems there is the whole demon thing. But again! Waaaay too emotional. So play off the family love angle manipulating them until they lose their fight strategy. Downside with that angle is they won’t be holding back in the slightest and they have some nasty powers they can whip out. Still safer than them working as a team. I have holowatch mimics for both with voice recordings, so as long as they’re separated, that would work. Actually killing them would need improvised explosives and a fake corpse for the girl. I’d have to take Lyn out first. Then move on to Psycho. Again, explosives would be the easiest route to maintain personal safety and his powers don’t work as well against robots so at least a few would get close enough to detonate and I have a looooot of bots.”

“Destruction Worker is the easiest. For all his book smarts he has zero battle strategy. So he’s hardly worth the bother of explaining and a quick de-stroy would do the job,” she waved a hand dismissively, “Charlene I wouldn’t want to get within any radius off. Distance is the only option to kill her. Distance and surprise,” a distant look and a frown settled on Bluebell’s features, “I’ve seen the corpses she’s left behind. Melted bullets too. Once those flames are up I’m fairly certain only a high temp armored round would have a chance of getting through. She doesn’t care about collateral damage and using family against her would be suicide as most of them have powers too if my research is correct and I’m sure it is,” Bell crossed her arms and tapped her foot, “So high powered fire suppressant in order to get a shot in and then it would have to be a dead eye shot. But fire bitch is ancient and ornery so I ain’t touching that if I don’t have to.”

-”You had right , it was a boring question. I was this close….” he raised a hand and gestured a small inch – “…To fall asleep when you began to describe the most common ways anyone would use to kill a human, that I lost track after the second sentence.  You say they make things interesting, but Bluebell. I read the newspapers all the time and I see no Great work from their part. Maybe they are on vacations.” he shrugs and hurry his last beer. Though he ignored her comment about killing him in the same way as them. His immortality is not something he has wrote in his forehead, so better let people think they can kill him. It’s a way to know who is with you and who is a traitor, when that person tries to shoot you or stab you. Is during that small second when all is clear.

“The only one there who seems worthy to meet is The fire lady. The rest…..None of them called my attention..” he made memory. Alixon just mentioned one when she explained she joined the DS. but so far they were more mocking the team than really analize them. “Oh well. I’ll look for them later.”

Bell rolled her eyes, “That’s because nothing short of fiery death raining from the heavens and seas of blood from the innocent amuses you. We are not all so picky,” she crossed her arms, “They do make it interesting if you like one on one battles with magic that can wreck city blocks for miles and flood an entire neighborhood.”

She waved her hands about, “Not all of us can conjure sandy death and mayhem from our fingertips. Sooooome of us have to actually work for it,” she shrugged, “But yeah, Flash is always good for a fight and would likely be the only one on a level you would care about. I heard she melted Chicago down once… or was that New York?” Bell tapped her chin, “She’s old as shit and I knooooooow you’ll piss her right off.”

Bluebell giggled, grinning from ear to ear, “Just give me a heads up first, k? I wanna be the next city over before you two turn this one to glass. Cuz you know, sand and fire. Damn Metrocity will make a pretty glass city! Ooooooo yeah.”

“Part o’ the Blue’s girly,” Freddy laughed heartily and gave her a friendly slap on the back, “Blue here told me you work for Mickey-dickey,” he explained, using a nickname for the tattoo parlor owner, “Well you kids come right on in.”

Opening the back room to one of the private dinner rooms that were almost exclusively used by the criminal elements of the city, Freddy pulled out a chair for Paige, “Back with some food for ya’ll in a giffy.”

Sighing, Syx accepted that his Uncle wasn’t ever going to change his tune, “Yes, yes, thank you, Uncle Freddy.”

Sitting down across from Paige on the small table, he looked at his gloved hands in debate. He hated eating with them on… but he wasn’t sure about having them off either.

Paige inhaled sharply at the slap to her back, immediately drawing her shoulder blades closer, tucking her head back a bit and taking a step forward as if she were trying to get away from the touch, the flinch immediate. She skittered around to Syx’s other side, her hands wringing together in an open show of her sudden intense rise of anxiety.

She watched him carefully as the chair was pulled out, giving him a quick and an emotionless smile as she slowly moved to sit down.. except she never took her eyes from Freddy. “…thank you Fred..” she murmured the words quietly, looking to Syx only when they were alone, visibly relaxing with a small smile.

“..He’s.. boisterous..?” She tried, phrasing the words more like a question than anything.

With his holowatch firmly in place and activated, Syx strode into the small tattoo parlor wearing his most often used dark skinned face. His afro filling a portion of the space his blue head did in order to help the disguise generator. He found that the less the watch had to drastically fabricate the more realistic the disguise and the longer the charge lasted. Generating flowing hair and clothing he wasn’t actually wearing stressed the-the algorithms in the watch and increased the likelihood he’d end up looking like a CGI character come to life.

Smoothing out his leather jacket, Syx grinned at his uncle and leaned against the counter. Chatting about business and news since he’d been in prison. Passing on messages from those who were still inside.

Noticing Paige coming in he gave her a little wave, heading over toward her and plopping down in her tattoo chair as if he hadn’t turned down every offer she’d ever made to give him one. He flashed her a wide charming smile, green eyes shining.

“Draw up anything new while I was gone?” he always adored seeing her sketches for her designs.

“Part o’ the Blue’s girly,” Freddy laughed heartily and gave her a friendly slap on the back, “Blue here told me you work for Mickey-dickey,” he explained, using a nickname for the tattoo parlor owner, “Well you kids come right on in.”

“Sorry about him,” Syx fidgeted and tapped his foot, “I do promise the food is good,” he bit his lip, smelling her sudden anxiety as she passed.

“Weeeell,” Syx looked around hopelessly and sat down with a thump, “Yeah, Uncle Freddy has always been rather rough around the edges,” Syx frowned looking at his hands as he twisted his fingers, “He’s not a bad sort, though. I mean… he is, but the good bad, not the bad sort of bad,” he waved his hands in the air, “You know?”

Send ♋ For Our Muses To Swap Bodies!

He was outside. Crouching on a rooftop. Syx was familiar with the area and being on a roof wasn’t that strange… but… he didn’t remember coming out here. Maybe he’d… sleep walked? He’d been building something in Evil Lair… Anna had…. tried to get him to come to bed, but he’d been on a roll and wanted to finish. He’d promised to make it up to her later. Likely he’d fallen asleep at the drafting table, it would hardly be the first time that happened.

Still, it hardly explained what was going on currently. Standing Syx stepped back from the ledge. He didn’t feel tired. At all. Bouncing on his toes he marveled at how odd that was. His clothing was odd too… not his normal leather and spandex. Speaking on that… he reached up and touched his head. Small. Hair.

WHAT?!

Jerking in shock and growing panic, Syx spun and dropped to the ground. He made a beeline for the lair. He didn’t know what was going on but he needed Minion NOW!.

@sincerest-flattery

“But-but!” Syx sputtered and then crossed his arms and pouted like a child. Stepping closer, he dropped his head onto Anna’s shoulder, throws off by the change in his head size, “fiiiiiine.”

He turned his head enough to glare at where Veda was in his body, still very upset at her. It was horribly unnerving for him to not be able to smell his mate the way he was used to.

@sincerest-flattery

“I-I am sorry.” Veda stammers out, shrinking away from Syx’s glaring. Her nose wrinkles, catching a hint of Anna’s emotions from here. The sensory change is confusing, and she isn’t sure how to react to it or how to properly ask.

Not long after she finds herself looking away, trying to force herself to ignore the look Syx is giving her even with her shoulders tense, posture defensive.

@1000liveslived

Anna was honestly very relieved to see her mate calm down further, him being the most important thing to her right now rather than Veda. Her focus was ensuring he was alright and wouldn’t make matters worse before she worked to fix whatever it was that was going on.

She wrapped her arms around Syx, looking over to Veda with a calming smile, “Its alright. Nothign for you to apologize for,” she assured her, taking in a deep breath before looking up. “Minion, can you come in here please?!” She called out, thinking he would be able to look at the camera’s and look back to see if there were any clues there.

@syx-blue

Minion swirled around in his tank, disoriented, “Sir? Miss?”

He’d been up far too late into the night himself on his guilty pleasure the early final fantasy games. He never quite knew when to put the game down so he only let himself play when there weren’t any evil plans in the near future. The shouting and commotion had roused him, but it had taken far to long to actually get his robotic limbs moving.

As it was, Minion didn’t know what he was looking at. Seeing Anna comforting a strange woman and his Sir looking very distressed, Minion looked between them and started heading towards his Sir with a confused frown.

“Wh- Minion!” Syx shouted in panic, reaching out towards his brother, “That’s nOT ME!”

“Uhhh, Sir?” the hench-fish squawked, looking around the room in growing distress.

“What do you think it means?” she shoots back, letting Bluebell talk herself out. It’s glow in the dark that catches Lucy’s attention, though, the prospect piquing her interest. “What kind of glow in the dark?”

Bell rolled her eyes, “All the kinds, obviously. Lipstick, eyeshadow, glitter, nail polish,” she rattled off.

A smirk drew up her lips and she bounced on her toes seeing the other girl get excited, “Coooome ooooooon! You have to let me do your makeup!”

Already caught by the mention of glow in the dark makeup, Lucy jumps at the chance. “Fiiine.”

Stretching the word out, she’s doing her best to look more reluctant than she feels.

“Woooo!” Bluebell jumped excitedly and lunged forward to grab Lucy’s hand, “Come on, sidekick!”

Her smile lit her entire face, green eyes sparkling, “Come on, come on, comeon! Stop being a slowpoke!” she tugged on her hand before giving her a chance to speak, “Everything is back at the Lair.”

She’d been hanging back to wait for some sort of reaction. And the one she’d gotten?

Rockatoo doesn’t even bother trying to hide her amusement over the result.

“Ya think I care how long ya gonna nee’ ta get ri’ of i’ from ya clothes?”

“You think this is going to go without retaliation?!”

“Oh a-aah, not there, not there,” he danced around trying to keep the glitter from getting into horrible places.

Minion tipped in his tank and raised a ridged brow, “Is alright to what part?”

He was beginning to wonder if he’d encroached on this beings territory. Humming to himself thoughtfully, Minion went with his normal method of being ridiculously friendly. With how different he was from the rest of the sentient world, he’d learned early that this was the safest approach to get people to not see him as a dangerous animal. It help that it aligned with his natural bubbly personality.

“I got some truely excellent looking Blue Gills in here,” he offered again, smacking the lid lightly.

Now that it had been mentioned, the familiarity in some of the scent he could pick up was more easily placed. “To zharing,” is Azlariel’s easy honest answer, finding no reason to even attempt to lie about it. Not that he was the best at that particular skill even now.

“Anyving elze?” he asks carefully, looking far less defensive now.

“Well, I haven’t seen you around before…” Minion tried to prompt further conversation, still not really clear on if his lunch invitation had been accepted. It seemed so but the fish man was clearly still uncomfortable.

“I take it you’re not much of one for small talk, huh?” Minion shrugged a robotic shoulder.

Megamind chuckled at her exuberance, “Minion can speak seven human languages,” he informed her, “And I can stay underwater far longer than humans,” he wiggled his fingers with a waggle of his brow, “Semi-Aquatic adaptations, far superior.”

The mortals comment caused a raised eyebrow, “What special little one are you to turn blue?”

Little Hel’s eyes were very wide in awe. “Seven is a lot,” she said, nodding. “I don’t speak that many.” Hel poked the silly blue’s skin. “What are semi-aquatic adaptations?” she asked. “Is that good?”

Hel grinned. “I’m a Jotunn!” she declared proudly. “That means Frost Giant in English. At least, I think it does. Jotunn doesn’t translate very well though.”

“It means I can see underwater easier and don’t sweat,” Megamind oversimplified to the small child. He raised a brow, “You don’t seem very giant or very frosty to me. You must be a mini Jotunn.”

“Hey,” Bell pouted, crossing her arms stubornly, “What’s that supposed to mean?” she arched a brow at the younger girl, “And look at your makeup and then look at mine. Your presentation is horrible.”

Clapping her hands together as she returned to bouncing, “But I have all sorts of stuff back at Evil Lair! Glitter in every shade you can dream of! Even glow and the dark makeup! I haven’t found a use for it in costume much, it sort of defeats the point of sneaking and I never fight Metro Chick in the dark… but damn it would be cool,” she rambled, getting distracted again.

“What do you think it means?” she shoots back, letting Bluebell talk herself out. It’s glow in the dark that catches Lucy’s attention, though, the prospect piquing her interest. “What kind of glow in the dark?”
