{{ There really weren’t anyone his age around. He had a few crushes on kids he’d met in his failed attempts at school, but nothing that went beyond blushing at people. After the assault, he couldn’t even think about someone touching him for a long time. His first boyfriend? was when he was around 20. It was a fellow prisoner who was only a bit older than him and it wasn’t really a relationship as much as a ‘friends’ with benefits. These early relationships had a crap ton of rules and power dynamic all on Syx’s side for him to feel safe in it. No touching being the biggest. No penetrative sex at all. Lots of kissing and biting, though. He had a lot of curiosity and need to experiment.
His first real lessons about human sex that was any good actually came from his one Aunt who owns a ‘Maggasge Parlour’. She also helped him deal with his feeling over the assault some too in his teen years. }}
oh gosh, this is a good on, Megs and they/them = both Syx and Bell
Megs hates boredom more than anything, it’s part of why Daddy allowed the cell to still have a TV. That still isn’t anywhere near enough but it helps. Really activity is better, doing something that involves both hands and brain. A problem to solve is the absolute best thing. They often achieve this be drafting new machines, given a nearly impossible set of criteria or challenge, and then brainstorm how to make it reality. Then moving on to building and testing. Downside is that they tend to hyper focus on the task and forget about everything else.
Left to boredom, Megs tends to withdraw into themselves. Shutting down and becoming listless. Retreating into their memories and imagination to the point they lose track of what’s around them. Boredom also tends to lead to more self-destructive behavior as the want of stimulation increases. As simple as staying awake far too long to self-injury through exercise or minor forms of self-harm (such as scratching skin or kicking a wall). Solitary makes Megs very unstable.
Too much and they loose focus, flitting between ideas at hyper speed. This usually results in nothing getting done and headaches. Coping usually involves forceful removal from whatever is too much and music. Minion is usually doing the removing. If not removed and too much is demanding their attention, Megs gets short spoken and bouncy. Let do on too long and this leads to burn out and Megs curled up into a ball somewhere.
Megs or Megamind = Syx and Bell are the same in that answer
♣ Do they believe the world is made up of good and evil?
Very black and white view of morality. When looking at closely there is lots of grey and exceptions, but large picture Megs sees the world as in two camps, those who are praise and those that are shunned. Good and Evil. However in Megs mind good isn’t always moral and evil not alway immoral, but society doesn’t seem to care about that from what he/she sees of it.
✔ Are they holding a grudge against anyone?
Syx holds a huge grudge against the men compliant with his bullying in prison, guards and prisoners. Also against the government in general and the scientists specifically.
Bluebell doesn’t have any true grudges, just frustrations in a general sense. Against types of people and not specific people. Such as stingy and racist shop owners for instance.
✦ Who is their favorite villain?
Themselves. XD
Seriously, though, Dr. Doom. A genius with a preference for robots and a showmanship flair. And he runs his own country. What’s not to love in a villainous role model?
△ Name one thing from their past that they regret.
Biggest regret is ruining his/her relationship with the Warden to the point where he/she thinks that the father/child relationship can never be repaired.
☼ If they had the choice to be immortal with one other person, who would they choose?
Minion. Without question or thought. It would hurt not having a lover immortal with them, but a world where Megs outlives Minion? No, never. Couldn’t happen.
Most things are the same for Syx or Bell. If so I’ll use Megs and he/she.
(・∀・ ) = The character’s emotional state most of the time
Megs is very even keel and happy most of the time. Very realistic expectations and easily filled with passion about his current project. He has melancholy moments but usually throws himself into a project and can get back to a happy passion. During quiet moments of reflection, however, he can get anxious and very depressed, but this mostly only happens when he can’t do something to distract. Thus in prison his general state is sour and moody.
@ = How the character appears online
Mostly quiet lurking. When Megs gets onto a forum its highly technical questions or very through responses, rarely writing less than 5 paragraphs and having little understanding of how the written word can have misconceptions about tone of voice. Most common screen name is Mega_6 or Mr_6_mind.
(*^◇^)_旦 = What the character likes to eat and drink
Junk food. Poptarts, donuts, chocolate, cookies, chips, anything easy that doesn’t require effort to make. If Minion is cooking then whatever is put before him/her. Megs still prefers sweet things and generally doesn’t really like veggies but they can get snuck through in dishes.
(´;Д;`) = What worries the character
Syx worries about his safety and the future. He is paranoid about his place in the city and worries endlessly about either seeming like too much of a threat or too little of one. He tries to walk that careful line and it endlessly stresses him.
Bluebell worries about people seeing the real her. She wears a mask at all times even more so than Syx. She is highly assertive and aggressive to cover a inner self that does nothing but worry and fret over how she’s being perceived.
Megs likes the rain, which post movie is hard because for a long time after the rain scene it brings back bad memories even after the repairing the relationship with Roxanne starts. But pre-movie, Megs likes to just sit at his drafting table with a cup of cocoa and just stare up at the big windows getting hit with rain, the pattern the light makes through the gathering drops is very soothing. As is the heavy moisture in the air.
♪ = What music the character likes
Rock! Syx loves the classics like AC/DC, Metalica, and Guns n Roses, but also newer artists like Schaffer the Darklord and Set It Off.
Bluebell loooooves the female rap artists Missy Elliott, Lil Mama, and Sammus.
⊙﹏☉ = What flusters the character
Not having the answer to a social situation. Socialization doesn’t come easily and Megs goes off of practice and repeated patterns rather than through intuition. (this is where the autism head canon comes in or that is to say, being an alien highly resembles how autism functions and human!au is just autism) So anytime a social situation goes outside of the defined pattern he/she’s comfortable with Megs freezes up and loses focus trying to find a solution to the sudden unknown. Social situations don’t follo0w logic and are usually best avoided outside of known circumstances. Routine is essential. The routine breaking also causes Megs to fluster.
It’s a last resort. The only people he doesn’t feel bad about their sudden deaths are rapists, pedophiles, and serial killers. But murder is an unfortunate reality of street justice in a city where the police are often useless and the heroes can’t reach the dark underbelly. Still, he greatly prefers to operate with nonlethal methods and tries to only work with others who feel the same. With the few before stated exceptions.
♥ = Character’s preference for relationships (sexuality, type of person, etc.)
Megs (Syx and Bell) are both extremely polyromantic and bisexual. They need partners who accept both aspects of their sexuality.
They are very much drawn to people who can challenge them mentally. This doesn’t mean only people with high IQ, rather someone who makes them think and with whom intellectual or engaging conversation can happen. Who engages their mind. The ability to engage in witty banter is often a must in a potential partner.
Going to copy/paste some actual criteria because Megamind is so autistic, and I love it.
• Being “in their own world”
• Can spend hours in the library researching
• Clumsiness
• Early in life they often have a speech impediment (shool/ollo/metrocity)
• Eccentric personality
• Highly gifted in one or more areas
• Intense focus/hyperfocus
• Likes and dislikes can be very rigid
• Limited interests
• Loves learning and information
• May have difficulty staying in school/college despite a high level of intelligence
• Preoccupied with their own agenda (it’s destiny)
• Repetitive routines or rituals
• Single-mindedness
• Speech and language peculiarities / hyperlexia
• Naive
• Abused, bullied, or taken advantage of as a child
• Escapes regularly through fixations, obsessions, and over-interest in subjects (hero/villain game)
• Feelings of polar extremes (depressed/over-joyed; inconsiderate/over-sensitive)
• Questions place in the world
• Searches for right and wrong
• Sense of humor sometimes seems quirky, odd, or different from others
• Highly susceptible to outsiders’ viewpoints and opinions (“Then it hit me: if I was the bad boy, then I was going to be the baddest boy of them all!”)
• Rejects social norms and/or questions social norms
There’s so much more I could add – could be great if fellow autistics and aspies familiar with this awesome film could pitch in!
And let’s not forget – Aspergers and autism are often referred to as ‘wrong planet syndrome’. Megamind being so obviously alien just turns that metaphor more concrete.
Being an aspie, I’ve frequently had to ‘pass’ as neurotypical just to be treated ‘normal’. Much like Megamind’s disguise watch – I slip on a new face/voice and suddenly no one looks at me like a ‘freak’. But it’s not natural. I’m still an alien underneath it all.
Roxanne: To Bernard, for being the only normal thing in my crazy upside down world.
Megamind: *disguised* To… Being normal.
{{ aspie here and yes to all of that. I’m sure that’s why I latched on so hard to Megamind. Because I hadn’t known what I was when I first watched it but it was so much just “yes that is me” in everything. Because he clearly has depression and anxiety too but those go hand in hand with autism/aspie. I know I struggle so much with language. My huge vocabulary is crippled by bad grammar and spelling and mixing up words. I live by thesauruses and dictionaries so that I can write clearly. Even then I mix up words that have nothing to do with each other on a regular basis.
All this to say that with so many symptoms, yes I fully support Megs being Autistic. To crave normalcy but to feel caged by it and wanting to just break free and be allowed to be yourself. }}
OH MY GOD I WAS BEGINNING TO THINK I IMAGINED THIS.
text–
Minion: “I hate it. Why do I always have to wear the dresses?”
Megamind: “It would be a major faux pas for me to show up sans a date, and they look better on you than me, so just pick one.”
Minion: “I promised myself that I wasn’t going to let you ruin prom for me, so I’m just going to ignore you and try on the yellow one.”
I read this ages and ages ago–on the internet somewhere, maybe? And then I could never find it again. But I finally got the comic book that it’s from! I knew there was semi-canonical support for Megamind experimenting with his gender during adolescence!
(Megamind says dresses look better on Minion than on him, which means that Megamind must have tried wearing them. Because otherwise he wouldn’t know that.)
[@lynati, do you remember me telling you about this a while back?]
{ Megs totally could rock a dress but omg yeah he would def be too nervous about what people would think being raised in an all male prison }
Okay… but consider.. Megamind in a crop top (idk why, I saw one that reminded me of him). Megamind with scars. Megamind with prison tattoos…. that is all.
