Slumping back in his chair, Syx wrapped his hands around his glass just to give them something to do. The comment about his blush, just made it get pinker, “So I’ve been told.”
“Hehehe,” he straightened and tried to shift his internal focus, “I bet Minion would love to see the kitchen of a place like this and talk to the chefs,” he laughed, “I’m not sure I could handle it if he started assigning drinks to every meal, though…” his expression fell, even though this universe was more accepting of blue skin, Syx doubted Minion would be as welcome.
Picking a bottle at random, he poured some into his glass and ended up with the plain water, “So… are all the restaurants you eat at like this?” he waved a hand about. Leaning on an elbow, he raised an eyebrow trying to settle his nerves and get his flirt back, “Or are you just trying to impress me?”
“A little column A, a little column B,” Harrison replied with a playful grin, thoroughly enjoying Syx’s continuing flush. “I certainly have visited my share of michelin star fine dining establishments across the globe, but no, not all the restaurants I visit are quite this elaborate.”
He leaned back in his chair, undoing the button on his jacket as he got comfortable in his seat. It gave Syx a view of more blue skin through the mesh shirt without the bunched coat in the way.
“I must confess though, I hope you find my company as impressive as the meal,” he said, flashing Syx a bright, confident smile.
Biting his lower lips, Syx’s eyes wandered over the now exposed blue skin peeking around the mesh shirt, “Oh, you far outshine the de-core,” his lips curled up as he chuckled, “Actually it’s a new feeling to have someone else out present me for an engagement of any sort.”
His villainous costumes had always been wonderful thanks to Minion. Sitting next to Harrison he almost felt under-dressed. Though he’d never dare show so much skin himself, though… He stood slightly and pulled off his leather jacket, setting it aside. His arms where exposed… But right now, that was just for the man across from him. As he sat back into the chair, his fingers rubbed over the edges of the hidden corset. Its presence and the extra layer of fabric reassured him.
Leaning back in his chair, Syx rearranged his face into a grin, trying hard to relax. So much of this strange relationship had been built of his being the dom and his nerves were making him feel like a failure in that. God he hoped Harrison didn’t fault him for that especially after all the bravado in the car. Not really knowing what to do with himself in situations like this, he steepled his fingers together before him, and blurted out, “I’d always planned on crashing one of annual fancy dinner fundraiser things the Scott’s host every year. Phantom of the Opera style.”
He squeezed her hand, “Yeah, it was special, but it was more… well…,” a mischevious smile spread on Syx’s face as he saw they’d reached the top. He singsonged, “You’ll see.”
He pushed through the last of the low hanging branches. Before them, the sand dunes dipped down low, the lake beyond that. They were high in the air here, the lights of the city a distant dream. The huge lake seemed to disappear into the horizon, the dark water glittering as the sun sank low.
Just in time.
The sky was alight with warm golds and reds as the sun seemed to sink into the dark water. His voice soft, Syx continued, “When I was here… I could forget about humans and the pain they caused. Here, by this lake, under these stars… Under a red sky… waiting until the stars fill the entire sky…”
The sky was nearly cloudless, as the sun’s light sank away, the glittered. So much brighter, so many more than could ever be seen in the city.
“It was as close as I could ever get to…” his throat closed up as his eyes were drawn up. Not that he could see that star from here. It could be seen from Earth, but not from anywhere in Michigan.
He shook his head to clear his thoughts and squeezed his beloved’s hands again, “Anna? My Tiger? I… I wanted to…” his stomach tightened with nerves, “…ask you something?”
Anna found herself laughing at the mischievous expression on her mate’s face, unable to help herself when he was acting as he was. He was always so amazing in everything he did, the thought a genuine one as she looked to him rather than to what he was revealing. Or at least, this was true at first. Looking forward as they pushed through into the clearing, Anna found her breath taken away by the beauty before them, pale eyes that held a subtle glow widening as she took it all in.
She felt a deep rooted sense of peace here, as if she could lay here and never be bothered to truly move. As if the woes of the world and her own mind could never touch her as they stood together hand in hand… it was truly perfect in her mind. The colors of the darkening sky were all taken in with vivid clarity, able to see why Syx would love such a place with ease. She had fallen in love with the place on the first look… so it made perfect sense to her, anyways.
It was the scent of his rising nerves that prompted the shifter to turn and look at him, blinking once before her head tilted to the side just enough to notice. The action was more animal like than anything else, showing the rise of her own confusion as she squeezed his hands in return, shifting so that she was facing him now rather than the beautiful view that lay out before them.
“You can ask me anything,” she urged, her voice a bit quieter. Though even if it was quiet, the sincerity certainly still rang through.
Syx laughed, his insides fluttering, “Right… Right,” he took a deep breath and squeezed her fingers, “Anna, we haven’t known each other long but I can’t imagine my life without you. When everything felt like it was falling apart you were always there to hold me together. We’re lost and broken… But together we’re better. And I… Anna,” he swallowed, biting his lips against the overwhelming swell of emotions in his chest, “Will you-”
“-fuck! I’m doing it wrong! Wait, wait!” Letting go of her hands he scrambled through the pack he’d brought. Pulling out a blue cube, he looked around for a water source before just cursing silently and spitting on it. A small velvet box, barely larger than the cube had been, appeared.
Dropping to one knee like he always saw in the movies, Syx held up the box and opened it. The ring inside was pure black and set with a shining dark diamond, “Anna, will you be my Evil Queen?”
Syx stopped his pacing and narrowed his eyes at her while he thought through what she had and hadn’t said, “They have overlapping business but not exactly overlapping. And in Jim doesn’t like him much, then he’s either annoying or even too crass for the drug lord.”
He mused out loud, knowing full well that Psycho would complain about him using the drug lord’s name so casually.Though they both did it to annoy the other, “But not enough to want to fight him.” Syx sighed and crossed his arms, “Great,”
He wasn’t really surprised, Psycho was a very cautious crime boss. Which was the main reason the man spent so little time in jail. He avoided doing anything directly whenever possible which was why he employed people like Destruction Worker.
Lyn merely listened to what it was Syx was saying at first, keeping her arms crossed. She remained quiet simply so she didn’t give anything else away, more than used to dancing around issues. Though then again, she knew Syx was very intelligent, and with as well as they seemed to know one another, she figured he would pick up on the s u b t l e hints she was giving to him. She merely shrugged, though in her opinion the other drug lord was a fucking moron.. he had done absolutely nothing to earn any form of respect from her. He was one man, she wouldn’t hesitate to kill him herself if she needed to.
“If ya plan on askin’ either a us ta get into the middle a this, yer barkin’ up tha wrong tree,” she informed Syx, lips thinning a bit in her displeasure in the assumption she made. “The two got a sort of… mutual understandin’,” Emma continued, though paused as she looked to Syx. She couldn’t help how her concern for him r o s e, sighing heavily as she closed her eyes and dropped her arms, adjusting her coat in a manner that had her bare midriff flashing before she looked to him again.
“…Be careful with this, you hear..?” She prompted softly, her accent growing more of a hint in her voice. “This man works on fear.. there’s probably more to him than meets the eye, yeah? Try to fix this, before it gets worse..”
Syx turned and gave her an incredulous look, “Oh god, no. One Doom Syndicate fighting another? I’m not suicidal. The whole city would look like a Mad Max film,” he shuddered at the devastation a full out super villain battle between powerhouses like that could potentially cause, “I want to forestall a major battle, not cause one.”
He sighed heavily and frowned softly at her show of concern, putting a hand halfway out towards her before dropping it and looking away, “I will,” he gave a half-hearted laugh and a shrug, “You know me, I always bounce back swinging.”
That last bit, though, “Fear?” his frown deepened, he was better at avoiding his darkest fears than facing them, “…how so?”
