Pulling back, Megamind raised a brow at her, even if she couldn’t see him, “Why Miss Ritchi, is it that hard to figure out? I always considered you smart enough to figure it out for yourself.”
“How boring would one of the banal sheeple of Metrocity be, right? Sure Metro Mahn would save anyone I kidnapped,” Megamind waved a hand in the air, “He IS a hero after all, but you’re his girlfriend, and far more entertaining.”
As a side note, he added, “Besides, family is off limit. I thought you’d figured that out like the timeout rule.”
Roxanne would cross her arms again if not for the rope binding them. “You shouldn’t think of them like that, you know. Any one citizen can be just as interesting and engaging as me, if you get to know them. But can see how that might be difficult with a reputation like yours.” She chews her lip for a couple minutes as the car starts, calculating a risk carefully.
“I’m not actually- Well. If I were Metro Man’s girlfriend, wouldn’t I be just as off-limits as his family?” While Roxanne had promised to do more pieces on those same ‘banal sheeple’ of Metro City, she still can’t help but try to pry deeper into Megamind’s psyche, trying to figure out his underlying motivations. Even if it means risking her not-so-well-kept secret. “If Wayne actually cared about me personally, like everyone seems to think, you’d… Probably be dead by now.”
“Now Miss Ritchi,” Megamind tutted after getting into the driver side of the car, “You’re part of the game, a highly essential component,” he huffed, not really wanting to explain.
Starting the engine, it purring to life, he grumbled, “Besides I started kidnapping you before he took an interest in you. Therefore my claim takes precedence,” glaring at her as he pulled out into the street he added, “Besides, he always saves you before you’ve received any bodily harm.”
Ignore the fact that he had a million safety catches in place and most of the traps only looked dangerous. Ignore that his brain bots were programmed to be non-hostile to her and prevent danger. Ignore that he activity stopped plans when they put her or other citizens in actual danger. It looked dangerous and destroyed property and that was the whole point. But Metro Man saved the day and he went back to prison and Roxanne got her story and the city turned. A comforting routine.
One which Roxanne seemed determined to poke holes in today! Much to his frustration, he quipped, “Why mess with a good thing and try and learn someone new?”
You ever think that maybe Megamind just isn’t cool with Metro Man at all? Like sure he loved being evil and trying to destroy the dude so I GUESS that can be misconstrued as frenemies, especially when Metro Man calls him his “little buddy”.
But Metro Man was the person who sent Megamind into the spiral of “I am the bad boy I can never be good I will never be the good guy.”
Even when it’s very clear that he’s switched sides, Roxanne is very clear that they should team up, and even still, he says, “I’m the BAD guy.”
Like Metro Man fucked up his whole psyche instead of helping Megamind understand this planet he was on after spending his whole childhood in JAIL FOR NO REASON OTHER THAN THAT’S WHERE HIS ESCAPE POD LANDED.
Why would they be friends??????
I have to do something with this.
(( For me it
involves what we don’t see in the movie. Which is a decade of battles and
growing understandings. Summed up very shortly in the flower scene.
“I didn’t mean to destroy you. I mean, I meant
to destroy you, but I didn’t think it would really work. What’s the point of
being bad when there’s no good to try and stop you?”
This plus the yellow roses for friendship and
the “little buddy” by Metro Man, paints a much deeper picture than just
what the movie shows of their relationship.
Megamind didn’t want to kill Metro Man, not
really. There was the joy of victory and success, but the horror on his face
from the skeleton says that even at the start its more complicated than
simply “yay i killed him.”
But his perception of right and wrong and good
and bad is horribly skewed from his upbringing and the difficulties he went
through growing up. This effects his decisions horribly throughout the
movie.
Also, last case point of Megamind cares for
Metro Man (whether he should or not) I present this face:
of Megamind looking at Metro Man. Boy CLEARLY
has feelings that aren’t ‘i hate you” and of the two of them, Roxanne is
the one that’s angry at Metro Man.
I wish HORRIBLY that
the movie had done more with Metro Man’s character or DO A FUCKING SEQUELL!!!
so we could get more canon development for the character, but alas. ))
