“Ha! Good thing too fuzz brain, you’d-” Syx grunted under her weight “-a horrible hero.”
“NOPE!” he shouted at the wall of fire appeared, “That is essential for the escape plan. Even if my damn tool went and got herself shot, I still need you,” he certainly wasn’t going to admit any sort of feelings toward the woman.
He blamed his biology. The sex had screwed everything up in his head. It was less that he’d stopped hating her and more that… he couldn’t picture his life without her a part of it. She was his now, for better or worse.
Tightening his arms around her side, Syx took a deep breath and readied himself, “Alright, buckle up and here we go!”
Dragging her with him, Syx took her good arm and wielded her finger like a gun, knowing full well that wasn’t how that worked but the guards didn’t. Pointing their hands at a hall to the side, he said, “Bang!”
“Ah, fuck you!” She spat out as he called her a tool. She wouldn’t dare admit to him that him dismissing her as something so low wounded her, and more than just her pride. That was easily ignored.. or at least for the most part. Damn it!! Why did things have to be so damn complicated.
She did her best to keep herself moving along with him, the blood from her wound trailing down her body, soaking her clothing that they had put her in. If she would have thought further on the actions they were doing, she probably would have laughed..
As it was, his exclamation was accompanied by a flurry of flames from their hands, though they didn’t burn him in the slightest. It was more difficult without her usual motions, took more concentration.. but it succeeded. The guards yelled out in fear, trying to use their mob shields to protect themselves.. only to have it burn. Emma kept the flames from burning the fools themselves, but it would at least keep them at bay.
It was far less that Syx thought of her as a tool, then it was to mask feelings he hardly wanted to acknowledge himself. The flash of hurt he smelled on her, he quickly tried to bury. There was no time to consider such things while they fought for their freedom.
With the guards distracted by the flames, he pulled her down another corridor. One free blocked gates. His inside man having done his job. Considering the high risk the officer took, Syx would have to compensate him well, his job and more would be lost if he was caught. With the way clear, they entered the office wing. With the ease of memory, he pulled them into the Warden’s office. He would know the way blindfolded.
“We have to be fast. This is going to burn this method in the future. Your bleeding everywhere will let Warden know we were here,” he complained as he dumped Lyn on the couch were daddy had read his stories when he was little. Reaching up he pulled loose the picture of the Metro City Lighthouse to reveal the hidden safe. Within was hidden an item that Warden had confiscated a decade ago. Warden didn’t think his son knew about the stash, but he did. Just saving it for an emergency.
“Keep an eye out,” he ordered as he started cracking the safe.
