It never even entered into Roxanne’s thought to wonder at genetic compatibility. In her mind, it seemed a given based off fantasy and science fiction tropes that humanoid species could and would have kids. Megamind was always just a blue human in her mind.
“Magic? Curse?” Roxanne’s face drew out into an anxious half grin, sure that this blue man was pulling her leg, “Are you sure you haven’t been reading too many tabloids?”
“Sadly no, welcome to Metro City where magic is real and is mostly used to be a pain in your ass,” Harrison sighed dramatically. To illustrate his point he focuses enough to levitate the box of donuts up so he could select a chocolate cake donut with rainbow sprinkles. “I’m friends with an honest to god faerie that lives in a magical tree, Wayne has a longstanding beef with a djinn, and I’m getting magic lessons from a half-dragon. It’s a brave new world.”
The expression of disbelief locked onto her face, Roxanne waved her hand under the box, “Okay, what’s the trick? I’ve seen Megamind do some pretty amazing things before but it was always grounded in reality somehow even if I didn’t understand half of it.”
She knew of the Doom Syndicate, but that was elemental stuff. She’d written them all off as mutants with physical abilities like Wayne’s heat vision. Brow furrowed she followed that same logic here, explaining what she was seeing based on what she knew, “So… like telekinesis?”
The other things he said, she filed away for future research. Djinn, fairy, dragon. That was going to be a fun research trip if she could even begin to separate fact from fiction.
“Nope. Honest to god magic. I had to memorize spells and do this thing with smelly herbs. Most of it is just focusing emotional energy at its core, so I’m sure there are scientific principles somewhere at work here. But I’m still a beginner,” Harrison explained with a shrug.
“I do have some additional empathic senses that humans lack; mostly it involves reading emotions by receiving subtle clues in pheromones. But I’m not an actual psychic. There is one of the other blue men in town who is however. He’s telepathic and telekinectic. He could be the most dangerous man in Metro City if he wasn’t such a shy, introverted, sweetheart.”
Brows lowered thoughtfully, Roxanne held her coffee as she listened. Magic… sure why not really. Just one more thing to add to the odd things in this city and another research topic for later. God, she was going to have zero free time.
“Pheramones? So like an ant or a bee?” She looked over at him as she sat back, “Like you can smell fear? Must make poker easier.”
